Scavenger Stories Learning was created to spark connection and inspire creativity through story-telling workshops for youth in classrooms and parks around NYC.
Our dedicated group of arts educators offer educational programming from individualized learning to larger group immersive content-based workshops.

Tony Canty
FOUNDER
Tony has worked with elementary-aged children for more than 15 years in play, social skills, and arts-based instruction. Through learning best instructional practices from Johns Hopkins University to gaining professional certification in Play Therapy at Brooklyn College, Tony is excited to share his passion of story-telling and arts education with children and families all around NYC.

Maxwell Smith
DESIGN SUPERVISOR, ARTIST EDUCATOR
Maxwell Smith is an illustrator and storyteller based in Brooklyn, NY. He recently graduated form Parson School of Design’s BFA Illustration program. He enjoys crafting engaging stories and visuals for people of all ages.

Heewon Lee
DESIGN TEAM MEMBER, ARTIST EDUCATOR
Heewon Lee is an illustrator and artist who explores 2D and 3D illustration through diverse materials and handcrafted techniques. Inspired by childhood fairy tales and the memories and emotions held within books, she creates artist books and installations that expand the book beyond a medium for reading into an artistic object and space for experience.

John Silaban
DESIGN TEAM MEMBER, ARTIST EDUCATOR
John Silaban is a multidisiplinary creative and a senior studying Design and Technology at Fordham Universtiy. Across various mediums and artforms, he works to bring educational storytelling to life whether it’s through prop design or acting.

Nora Cheng
ARTIST EDUCATOR
Nora Cheng, Artist Educator. Nora Cheng is a Brooklyn-based musician and writer with a degree in Literature and Creative Writing from NYU. She’s interested in writing children’s stories and bringing characters to life through art-making and dialogue-writing. She loves connecting with children and encouraging them to express themselves across all mediums of art.

Mia Blatcher
DESIGN TEAM MEMBER, ARTIST EDUCATOR
A designer, programmer, and leader, Mia holds the belief that good design can impact humanity for the better. She is a graduate from Fordham University, where she studied New Media and Digital Design, Computer Science, and American Studies. At Scavenger Stories, she manages the social media, creates media content, and helps coordinate workshops. Her favorite part of Scavenger Stories is supporting the creative ideas of the kids with whom she works!

Marshall Peace
ARTIST EDUCATOR
Marshall is a writer and artist from Greenville, South Carolina with a passion for storytelling and inspiring imagination in the world. He comes from a background in acting and theater education, and studied Media Studies and Anthropology at SUNY Purchase. Now he lives in Brooklyn, writes stories for kids, and rides his bike a lot.
